Duotone Windsurfing Booms – Platinum AERO 3.0, Platinum SLS Carbon & Silver iFRONT Booms

Duotone windsurfing booms from the UK's Duotone specialist: the ultralight Duotone Platinum Series AERO 3.0 and Platinum SLS carbon booms, the Silver, Silver Mega.Slim and Black aluminium booms, the EPX.Carbon and EPX.AL range, plus MK and Chinook booms.

Our advice: go carbon if you can

A carbon boom is one of the biggest upgrades you can make to how your rig feels. Carbon is stiffer than aluminium, so the boom doesn't flex under load and every bit of power goes into the board. Aluminium booms bend slightly, especially on bigger sails and with heavier riders, and that flex costs you reactivity and control. Carbon is also lighter, which makes a real difference when you're uphauling or water-starting a big sail, and it's stronger. On Duotone's SLS booms you also get a 2-year unconditional warranty when you register within 30 days.

The Duotone iFRONT clamp

Duotone's Platinum, Silver and Black booms use the patented iFRONT 2.0 boom head, a clamp Duotone design and make themselves. It locks onto the mast tightly and evenly, so the boom stays exactly where you set it, and it fits both RDM and SDM masts. Very few windsurfing brands design their own boom clamp. Duotone's Platinum SLS boom is the most used boom among PWA competitors.

The Duotone boom range

• Duotone Platinum Series AERO 3.0: Duotone's lightest, stiffest carbon boom. The ultimate upgrade.
• Duotone Platinum Series SLS: lightweight carbon with the iFRONT head. Available in Mega.Slim versions with a thinner grip for wave sailing and smaller hands.
• Duotone Silver Series and Silver Series Mega.Slim: 7075 aluminium, strong and good value. The Mega.Slim has a slim grip that's comfortable on wave and freestyle sails.
• Duotone Black Series: a tough aluminium boom for freeride sailing.
• Duotone EPX.Carbon (140-190 to 190-250): Duotone's budget-friendly carbon boom with a proven standard clamp.
• Duotone EPX.AL (90-210, including XXS and XS kids' sizes): a great-value aluminium boom for beginners and kids.

Other booms

• MK Carbon Windsurf Boom (Wave CPW 140-190 and Freewave CPX 150-210): full carbon at a sensible price.
• Chinook RDG Carbon, RDG Alloy and Pro 1 Alloy booms: dependable booms from a long-established windsurfing brand.

Choosing your boom size

Every sail lists its boom length on its spec table. Pick a boom range that covers your sails, ideally with that length in the middle of the range rather than at the end. A wave sailor on 3.7-5.3m sails usually needs around 140-190; a freerider on 6-7.5m sails usually needs around 160-220 or 170-230.
