Which Duotone Front Wing Is Right for You? The Full 2027 Range Compared

Last week's post covered what's new — Glide 3.0 and Crest SLS, plus the tool-free mast and the two Monobloc tails. This one steps back and looks at the whole front wing range: twelve wings, entry level to dedicated freestyle, so you can see where everything sits and work out which one is actually yours.

Two constructions run through almost the whole range — D/LAB (premium, carbon) and SLS (mid-range, still carbon) — and the rule holds everywhere, not just on Glide 3.0: a D/LAB buyer doesn't trade down to SLS, and an SLS launch opens up a new, cheaper buyer rather than stealing from D/LAB. Pick your wing on what you're doing on the water first, then pick the construction your budget and ambition point to.

Just starting out — Lift

The Lift is the entry point into the whole range — big, forgiving, and built to fly in under 10 knots so you're not waiting for a proper blow to get your first foils in. One size, 2400cm², and it's the wing we hand most beginners in a lesson before they buy anything of their own.

Everyday freeride — Free 2.0

Once you're comfortable and want something that turns and carries speed properly, the Free 2.0 is the allround freeride step up — three sizes (1300, 1600, 1900cm²) covering most riders and most wind. It's the wing that quietly does the most miles for the most people.

Freeride performance — Glide 3.0 SLS & D/LAB

New for 2027 and landing 9 September, the Glide 3.0 is the high-aspect step beyond Free 2.0 — better glide, better pump, and enough range to cover winging, prone, parawing and downwind. D/LAB runs 600–1100cm², SLS runs 825–1400cm², and the two barely overlap, so your size mostly decides your construction.

Wave, prone and freefly — Crest D/LAB & Crest SLS

The Crest D/LAB has been the reference for prone, freefly, wake and foil-assist for a while — lower aspect than Glide, built to feel locked-in and playful rather than pure glide. From 9 September there's a Crest SLS alongside it in 800–1200cm², same character, friendlier price. Different job to Glide 3.0 entirely: Glide chases efficiency and downwind range, Crest chases feel on a wave or under a wing in the surf zone.

Surf, freestyle and kite — Carve 3.0 D/LAB & SLS

The Carve 3.0 is more locked and more freestyle-capable than the Crest, built for surf, freestyle and kite foiling rather than pure prone glide. Both constructions are available now — D/LAB in 500–1100cm², SLS in 800–1300cm² — already the current, unembargoed range rather than part of the September launch.

Dedicated freestyle — Pop D/LAB

Where Carve 3.0 still glides and carves, the Pop D/LAB is built purely for explosive pop and re-pop — low-to-medium aspect, locked-in front foot pressure, and a fast profile that trades glide for maximum height and amplitude on tricks. It pairs with the dedicated Monobloc Tail F. Landing at Worthing Watersports shortly, in 500, 650 and 800cm².

Freerace — Blitz D/LAB

The Blitz D/LAB sits at the race end of the range — built for speed and direct reactions rather than playfulness, in 550 and 800cm². If you're chasing top speed or racing rather than freestyle or freeride, this is the one.

Pump and dock starts — Amp 2.0 SLS

At the other end of the aspect scale, the Amp 2.0 SLS is the biggest wing in the range — 1550, 1800 and 2100cm² — built specifically for pumping onto a foil from a dock or standstill without wind or a wave to help you up. A specialist tool, not a first foil.

Downwind specialist — Hyperglide D/LAB

For dedicated downwind runs, the current Hyperglide D/LAB (680 and 880cm²) is built purely around efficient glide over distance rather than turning or pumping in tight spaces. Duotone has a Hyperglide 2.0 D/LAB update pencilled in for Spring 2027 — nothing to order yet, so we'll cover it properly once it actually exists as a product.
