Windsurfer riding the Duotone Ultra FreeWave 2.0 SLS 2027 freewave board

If you're only going to own one windsurf board in this country, this is a very strong candidate. The Ultra FreeWave 2.0 SLS starts life as a proper new school freestyle shape — so it has the acceleration and the pop — and is then tuned for side-on waves up to logo high.

It's the stock board: same shape as the D/LAB, Full Custom SLS construction, available now, £300 less. Six sizes from 74 to 119 litres, fins included.

Two boards, one board

Swap the fins and the character changes completely. As a single it's crisp and direct — that's the blasting, bump-and-jump, pop-off-a-chop setup. As a tri it goes loose and carving for when something is actually breaking. Most people end up with a default setup and a bag of fins in the van, which is exactly the point.

The Domier deck

New for 2027: a Domier deck around the footstrap area, purely for riding comfort. It won't appear in a test verdict, but it's the part of the board your feet are on for the entire session. Sore feet end sessions earlier than tired legs do.

New tail outline

The new tail outline turns tighter and more spontaneously than the previous shape. On a board that has to jump, spin and carve, the tail is where the compromises normally get made, so this changes how the whole thing feels rather than one part of the ride.

Who it's for

Intermediate to advanced. It's the natural next board if you're on a freeride shape like a Gecko or an Eagle and you keep getting overpowered — you want something smaller for the windy days that still isn't a pure wave board. It's happy in windy harbour chop, it's fine in small waves, and it jumps.

💡 Sam's Tip

The 94 or the 104 covers most people. Go 104 if you're over 85kg or your local spot is often marginal — there's more volume in the tail on these than you'd expect, which is a real advantage for heavier riders. Pair it with a Duke SLS and you've got a setup that covers about three quarters of the UK sailing year.
