Going beyond your imagination. Built like a high-end custom board. With the ULTRA FreeWave Duotone's major aim was to get away from the typical does it all compromise board. That's why we didn't go the usual route of creating an "easy going" freemove board and then trying to implement as much classic wave and freestyle skills into the shape. Instead, we went the other way around.

In other words, the basis of the development was a potent new school freestyle board, which automatically led to maximum acceleration and pop. This shape was then tuned so that it also functions as a capable wave board in logo-high side-on waves. 

For the ULTRA FreeWave to work in side-on wave conditions, it had to become crisp and direct plus truly work with a tri-fin setup. Now let s see what are the key ingredients of a great Bump&Jump Freemove board? For us it s all about great acceleration, control and manoeuvrability. But what s really new and unique for such a board is the crisp feeling. Instead of feeling dull and boring to ride the ULTRA FreeWave offers an exciting ride sensation without sacrificing control or wind range. This is the reason why the FreeWave has been given the ULTRA suffix. 

The ULTRA FreeWave not only offers excitement when performing or learning new manoeuvres, but is also super exciting in a straight line and therefore puts a smile on your face throughout the entire session.

Duotone's second priority was to create the first manoeuvre convertible that works equally great in single- and tri-fin setup and dramatically changes its character: >> With the tri-fin setup it offers 70% of the GRIP 3 wave potential (top/bottom turns) >> With a single fin setup it now feels a lot more exciting than its predecessor>> Combined with a capable freestyle fin, the ULTRA FreeWave offers 70% of the hardcore freestyle potential of the SKATE. As a result, both versions are approx. 200g lighter than the previous models, but yet even stronger.

Duotone Pro Pads: 8-10mm thick duo density EVA (depending on the board type) provides best dampening comfort and control. The higher-density outer layer features Duotone's signature heat pressed diamond groove pattern that protects the EVA against abrasion and provides maximum grip level and connection to the board. We only select EVA colours which don't look dirty after use and will also resist fading after hours in the sun.

WOOD SANDWICH TECHNOLOGY: The WOOD SANDWICH TECHNOLOGY consists of 40 individual parts and components and offers the best weight/durability vs. price ratio. This is achieved through combining the usual high density PVC sandwich foam with large wood reinforcement patches. This reduces the complexity of the layup which helps us to keep the price under control. Yet it leads to a very strong and just slightly heavier board compared to Duotone's Premium Sandwich Technology. We think there is no better performance for value construction out there.

Fin Configuration: All FreeWave sizes come with a Powerbox single fin - reduced weight and maximum Plug & Play.FreeWave SLS 75 to 105 come with a thruster setup offering even more grip during manoeuvres and turns (get delivered with 1 Powerbox center fin plus 2 Slotbox side fins).FreeWave SLS 115 and 125 come with a Powerbox single fin. The 2 additional side Slotboxes offer the option to switch to a thruster setup.

PREMIUM SANDWICH TECHNOLOGY: The PREMIUM SANDWICH TECHNOLOGY consists of 50 individual parts and components and is Duotone's lightest semi custom technology. Achieved through lighter raw materials and a higher carbon content and a sophisticated layup with a much higher amount of load spot specific patches, stringers and reinforcements. Important these weight savings do not go to cost of durability. This is why as the first production brand we offer a 1 YEAR UNLIMITED WARRANTY on these boards when registered online (dents excluded).

FULL CUSTOM SLS TECHNOLOGY: The FULL CUSTOM SLS TECHNOLOGY is a full custom technology which is one hundred percent identical to high-end custom made boards.Instead of using a mould to bring the EPS foam core into its final shape each EPS block gets CNC milled. This ensures maximum precision and saves weight. Same as with high-end custom board makers the major advantage lays in the processing. We call this SINGLE PROCESS TECHNOLOGY and it is the key to Duotone's industry-leading weight-strength ratio. Instead of combining working steps to save time and money every single step follows its individual process. So for example instead of joining the PVC sandwich with the EPS core in a single shot we vacuum-bag the top and bottom PVC shields with the EPS core separately. For all SLS boards we use Duotone's most sophisticated layup which consists of more than 50 individual parts and components.

The major difference compared to the FULL CUSTOM D/LAB TECHNOLOGY is the S-glass on the PVC sandwich for the SLS boards (like most wave boards on the market), while the D/LAB boards are equipped with a carbon-Innegra layer on the outside. Innegra is the best composite fibre to prevent dents. Dents caused by the mast touching the board (during catapults or when getting washed) are mainly an aesthetic issue. But if you want a board that stays dent-free, you should opt for the D/LAB version.Last but not least even every single board size has an individual layup. That s the final stage of individualization in construction.Yet all of this is achieved without any sacrifice in durability since we always follow Duotone's core motto LIGHT DONE RIGHT.

Also instead of using standard 3mm PVC elements for the entire board we use thicker and thinner PVC plates as well according to the stress areas which makes the board lighter yet stronger.

For all D/LAB boards we use Duotone's most sophisticated layup which consists of more than 60 individual parts and components (nearly 20% more parts than used for Duotone's FULL CUSTOM SLS TECHNOLOGY). On top we are using the most high-end composite materials available to-date. All carbon fibres used are a mix of high strength and high modulus carbon qualities depending on the individual requirements of each board section. Duotone's high modulus carbon used can also be found on high-end products like aircraft s, Formula One cars or Duotone's Platinum SLS masts, booms and extensions. Innegra is a high modulus Propylene with unbeatable tensile and ding resistance. It offers a similar tensile strength to Kevlar, but is significantly stiffer. In addition, Innegra is the best composite fibre to prevent dents.

We use Duotone's exclusive high performance S-glass fiber with an extra high silica content which offers much higher tensile strength as well as about 10-20% greater stiffness.

And finally we are using Duotone's exclusive DUOTONE SENTEX resin impregnated with silicon nano-spheres which helps us to reduce the weight even further without sacrificing durability. Instead of using a similar layup on all boards we use a DISCIPLINE SPECIFIC FLEX CONSTRUCTION for all Duotone's D/LAB boards since demands on the different disciplines (wave, freestyle, freeride, racing) and conditions vary quite a lot.Racing boards are e made to offer maximum performance (instant acceleration and V-max). Therefore these boards need be as stiff as possible. To achieve this no compromise stiffness we use a super high carbon content on all FALCON D/LAB layups.

On wave boards though a certain give is essential since these boards are very short and might become too stiff thus uncontrollable using a full carbon layup. Therefore the GRIP D/LAB boards come with a higher Innegra and S_GLASS content. These high-tech composites have a much higher tensile strength avoiding breakages after high landings. To still achieve an outstanding "spring-back" characteristics which makes the board more reactive and has a tremendous effect on the acceleration we use unidirectional Carbon reinforcements in longitudinal direction. Last but not least even every single board size has an individual layup. That s the final stage of individualisation in construction.

The result speaks for itself since the D/LAB boards are up to 500 grams lighter than Duotone's SLS boards and up to a full kilo lighter than other semi custom production boards. And it s the first time that a production board can compete even with the lightest custom made boards out there. Yet all of this is achieved without any sacrifice in durability since we always follow Duotone's core motto LIGHT DONE RIGHT.
