Worthing’s own Jake Scrace—a shop rider for Worthing Watersports—has just soared into the record books with the highest kite-surfing “tow-up” in history. Verified by Guinness World Records, Jake reached an incredible 1,587 ft (487 m) above the Needles, Isle of Wight, before gliding back down to the water.
This epic feat was a masterclass in teamwork and precision. Jake was towed aloft by paramotor pilot Chey Anich, with a 30-strong crew handling safety, logistics, and filming—right down to safety divers in the water. The record was verified using multiple data sources, including synchronized footage, altimeter readings, GPS traces and on-board cameras to meet GWR standards.
Built on Preparation, Skill and Trust
Months of planning went into perfecting the tow, the weather window, and the descent. At that altitude, it all comes down to trusting the kit, the team, and the conditions—and Jake delivered. The result? A clean, confident descent and a new world record on the first attempt.
A History of Big, Bold Moments
If Jake’s name rings a bell, it’s because he’s no stranger to audacious riding. Back in 2009, he and friend Lewis Crathern made headlines by jumping over Worthing Pier in stormy conditions—an iconic local moment that still gets talked about today.
Local Pride: Graphics by South East Signage
We’re extra proud that the graphics on Jake’s equipment were produced by our sister company, South East Signage. From concept to final application, the custom visuals looked unreal at altitude and on camera—proof that performance and presentation can go hand in hand.
What’s Next for Jake?
If you know Jake, you know he’s already thinking about the next challenge. We’ll be following closely—as will the rest of the watersports world.
