I’ve had 15 sessions on this foil now and it really is very good! These sessions have been a mixture of south coast swell riding and inland flat water varying from 6m to 3.5m weather.
Coming from the Glide 2.0 1100/900, I was surprised and how much more loose and manouverable the Crest was. The Crest also feels more powerful and has a much lower stall speed than the glide, making it easier to catch slow moving swell and to get round tacks/gybes when it’s choppy. It isn’t quite as fast, nor does it have as much glide as the glide 2.0, but it is much easier to pump especially when you are at an angle, so you can often stay on foil for longer. Overall it’s been a lot more fun to sail!
Stabiliser wise, I started off with the PX175/43 fuse. But I have since tried the monobloc 160S and 160Px stabs, which have improved the speed and glide even more.
At 92kg the 1050 is perfect for 90% of the conditions I sail. I do still have my Glide 1350 for when it’s super light and Carve 950 for when the waves are bigger.
Thanks Sam and the team, who were very helpful when picking what size to get

Duotone Crest 1050 Review (Wing Foiling – Adur River Testing)
I've had two sessions on the Duotone Crest 1050 on the Adur River in gusty 20–35 knot conditions, riding a 85L Skybrid with a 4m and 3m. I’m an experienced wing foiler and was riding back-to-back with the Carve 850 D/Lab 2.0, and also the Glide 900 D\Lab 2.0.
First Impressions
The low-end on this foil is seriously impressive. It doesn’t stall until you are nearly at a stop, gets up on foil with minimal effort, and holds glide through lulls better than anything else I’ve ridden at this size. For me, the early take-off felt comparable to my Glide 1595, but in a much more playful and compact package.
Performance
• Take-off & Low End: Incredibly forgiving. It lifts early, stays flying even when speed drops right down, and allows you to recover from manoeuvres without dropping off foil.
• Speed Range: The best I’ve experienced so far at the low end. Top-end is controlled and not intimidating, making it a well-balanced wing for varied conditions.
• Carving & Manoeuvres: Smooth, confidence-inspiring rail-to-rail. Ideal for carving 360s and tacks, as the foil keeps flying through slow, technical turns.
• Pumping: Pumps efficiently and carries glide really well, I found it to be an easy foil to pump.
• Forgiveness: Its ability to hold flight at low speeds makes it a great safety net for sketchy footwork or slower manoeuvres.
Comparisons
• Against the Carve 850 D/Lab 2.0, the Crest 1050 obviously has more low-end and glide, making take-off and lulls easier to handle. The small Carve feels sharper and more manoeuvrable, but the difference in speed isn’t huge despite the size gap.
• Compared with the Glide 1595, the Crest offers similar early lift but in a far smaller, livelier wing. It’s noticeably more playful and engaging without sacrificing stability.
• Compared with the Glide 900, it has a better low end and sacrifices a small amount of glide performance for large gain in maneuverability. It’s glide performance is more forgiving than the glide, as it will keep foiling at slower speeds, whilst the glide will drop off foil sooner and more suddenly compared to the Crest.
A big difference compared to the glide is how the foil behaves when it's close to the stall speed. With the glide you have to be careful not to upset the foil when close to stall or it will drop off foil suddenly. In comparison the Crest is very forgiving when it's close to stall, then if you let it stall it gently comes down off foil. This makes it far easier to recover from a low speed situation by pumping, without requiring great technique. Then if you do come off foil, you are far less likely to fall in as you come down slowly and predictably.
Verdict
The Duotone Crest 1050 sits between the Carve and the Glide, offering nearly all the performance of both in terms of glide and carving, in a forgiving, easy-to-use package. For flatwater, it feels like the sweet spot: quick to take off, reliable in lulls, playful in turns, and forgiving enough to push manoeuvres without penalty. I can see the Crest becoming a really popular foil, and look forward to taking it out in the waves!
