Wave windsurfer in action on the Duotone Super_Hero SLS 2027 high performance wave sail

If the D/LAB is the halo sail, the Super_Hero SLS is the one that actually ends up on most people's booms — and the 2027 version has closed the gap in the way that matters. Light Done Right construction has taken 450g out of it, putting it on the same weight as the Super_Hero D/LAB.

The part worth reading twice: they did that without using thinner film on the main panel. Thin film is the usual shortcut to a light sail, and it costs you wind range and life. Ten sizes from 3.0 to 5.7, two colourways, in stock now.

Why the thick centre panel matters

The large centre panel above the window is deliberately thicker film. Under load it doesn't stretch, so the profile stays where it was designed to be instead of bagging out as the gusts come through. A sail that holds its profile is a sail you don't need to change — which is most of what people actually mean when they say a sail has good range.

Durability is a film thickness question

Puncture and UV resistance come more or less directly from how thick the laminate is, and the XPly Plus film is built for reef landings and years of sun. Duotone back it with a 5 year warranty (2+3, registration required), which is not a claim you make about a sail you expect to come back.

On the water

Four battens and a medium-low draft position: high-end control, and a rail that stays in the water through a down-the-line turn rather than sliding out the top. VTS gets the trim right in seconds and HTS 2.0 prints the harness line position onto the sail, which saves the usual ten minutes of shuffling lines on a new sail.

💡 Sam's Tip

For most UK wave sailors this is the sail, not the D/LAB. A 4.2 and a 5.0 covers the bulk of a Sussex season; add a 3.7 if you sail through the winter and a 5.3 or 5.7 if you are heavier or your local spot is marginal. If you mostly sail bump and jump on a freewave board rather than proper waves, look at the Duke SLS instead — five battens will suit you better.
