Team Duotone Kiteboarding on top of the world! - Worthing Watersports
2022 is drawing to a close and we at Duotone are more than stoked with the achievements of our international team in competitions all around the globe across multiple disciplines. We’re proud of six new World Champions, as well as three Vice World Champions. Plus of course, all the thirds and fourths, which never quite get the recognition these rankings truly deserve!

The biggest competition highlights of 2022 we would like to share with you:
One of the competition scene's most popular riders, “The Italian Stallion“, produced a performance for the ages at the final event of the GKA Freestyle World Tour in Taiba, Brazil. Delivering an insanely spectacular and progressive display of riding throughout every single heat of the event, secured Gianmaria his first and well-deserved world title.

Our Brazilian superwoman Mikaili Sol raised the bar of female kiteboarding to new levels throughout the entire year. By going harder, higher, more critical and more technical with more physical potency than any of her competitors, Mika got to stick her fourth pure freestyle world title under her belt next to two big air world titles.

Congrats also to Rita Arnaus (ESP) for coming third overall. A special mention goes out to Claudia León (ESP), who claimed her very first world tour win this year in Neom, Saudi Arabia, and the fourth rank overall.

2022 VICE WORLD CHAMPION: Matchu Lopes (ESP/CPV)
3rd: Pedro Matos (BRA)
4th: Sebastian Ribeiro (BRA)

In the wave and strapless freestyle discipline, team Duotone took over the whole podium and more! The Australian gladiator and barrel machine James Carew’s extreme focus and hard work all year paid off, gaining him back-to-back World titles. But also Matchu Lopes (ESP/CPV), the GKA’s first World Champion in 2016, showed the world yet again that he’s right on top of this discipline, taking the Vice World Champion title home to Cabo Verde. With Pedro Matos (BRA) overall in third and Sebastian Ribeiro (BRA) fourth, we couldn’t wish for more. Legendary effort team, thanks for pushing the envelope in this discipline so hard!

In the crazy big air strapless discipline, the legend himself Airton Cozzolino did what he does best: send it like no tomorrow! Dominating the Qatar Airways GKA Big Air World Championships in Tarifa in July, Airton sealed the deal in the finals, winning him his fifth World Championship title.

We’re also super proud of our female riders going so hard in this discipline, with Young Blood Camille Losserand (SUI) becoming Vice World Champion & Junior World Champion and Mikaili Sol (BRA) third overall.

2022 VICE WORLD CHAMPION men: Liam Whaley (ESP)

Nathalie Lambrecht (SWE) third overall in the 2022 ranking

Last but certainly not least, a big shout-out to the superheroes both male and female in the big air twin tip game this year, what a development of the sport!!

Andrea Principi (ITA) sent himself into the third spot on the podium.

Our team also dominated kiteboarding’s most extreme big air contest in the world: the Red Bull King of the Air in Cape Town, South Africa, in which the absolute best of the best big air riders in the world battled it out in 40 knots plus of Cape Town’s infamous southeasterly wind the “Cape Doctor”.
