The Cosmic D/LAB is the World Cup wave board and the most developed shape Duotone make, which usually means small changes. This year there are five of them, and one is the sort of thing you feel on the first bottom turn.
Made to order in Full Custom D/LAB, available in the four-fin Cosmic (4) from 53 to 106 litres and the three-fin Cosmic (3) from 82 to 106 litres.

Asymmetric side fins
The new fin set uses asymmetric side fins for more drive and more grip. It's a well-established idea in surfboard fins and it's a sensible one here — the two side fins aren't doing the same job at the same moment through a turn, so shaping them identically is a compromise. Expect more bite when you load the rail and more drive coming off it.
The shape changes
A touch more nose rocker to help you cross gnarly white water — which on our beach breaks is most of the job of getting out. A refined tail outline that improves turn-ability and grip together, and a refined tuck line in the mid-front section for better acceleration and control.
On top of that the layup has been refined again to save another 100 to 200g depending on length. At 4.8kg for the 53 that's already a very light board, and every gram off a wave board is one less thing throwing your timing off in the air.
Also today, and what's next
The Skate D/LAB freestyle board and the Idol LTD sail also release today, and neither is a colourway update: Skate D/LAB moves to full D/LAB construction for durability rather than weight, and Idol LTD's new batten-free centre construction saves 200 to 300g without thinning the panel film. The Super_Hero D/LAB — Duotone's established flagship wave sail — is also part of today's drop. Coming up: Super_Hero SLS, Duke SLS, Duke, Cosmic 4 SLS and Ultra Freewave 2.0 (D/LAB & SLS) on 23 September, then the Falcon race boards through October.

💡 Sam's Tip
If you're choosing between the (4) and the (3): quad for grip and tight radius in smaller, weaker surf, thruster for drive and a longer arc when it's got some size. If your sailing is mostly Sussex beach breaks, the quad is the one that'll get used. And because it's made to order, get the order in early — lead time is the thing that catches people out, not the spec.
